Coach JASON, OLY
ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER COACH
Jason Pryor, OLY comes to the Academy with an extraordinary story of perseverance. As a lone-wolf Olympian and NCAA-Div I walk-on, he has defied the odds and continues to do so. Through it all one driving factor remains the same, his desire to provide high-quality fencing instruction to youth in underserved and underrepresented communities.
Coach Jason is a native of South Euclid, OH and began his fencing career in the boiler-room at age 11 under coach William Reith. Originally a soccer player, rather than let him quit sports his parents “encouraged” him to pick something new; on a whim he chose fencing.
As an athlete, Jason was the only U.S. epee fencer to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Games of the XXXI Olympiad where he placed 22nd. He is a 5-time World Championship member, 2015 Div 1 National Champion, individual bronze and team gold at the Pan American Fencing Championships and individual bronze and team silver at the Pan American Games.
As a coach Jason has worked in training camps and programs all over the nation. Including the 2019 Pan Am Games Men & Women’s Epee coach where the team won gold medals in both Women’s Individual and Team events.
When he’s not traveling for Fencing competitions, Coach Jason spends his time with his wonderful wife, Svetlana Binshtok.
The Academy is excited to welcome Coach Jason to the team!
